Optical fibres links for the installation of Syspad project in RER B stations

In the context of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Île-de-France Mobilité (the institution responsible for devising, organising and financing transport for all the people of Île-de-France) has launched a transport revolution with the aim of making transport more accessible, more efficient and more sustainable for users.

RATP, a key player in this revolution, has been looking at ways of improving its metro trains, as well as modernising the way in which information is disseminated to users, in particular the Direction Indicator Panels on the RER B. By opting to install a new display system, Syspad, RATP will be able to inform passengers on a panoramic screen in real time.

Problems encountered

The Régie Autonome des Transports Parisien has a vast optical fibre network used for signalling and information systems, among other things. In order to connect the new Syspad display panels to the network and transmit real-time information to passengers, the RATP needed to find a highly reliable Gigabit Ethernet optical fibre signal transfer solution that could be fitted into small units.

Solution implemented

IFOTEC proposed its Mini Giga Gigabit Ethernet media converter for the Syspad (Service display panel system) screen deployment project on the platforms of 31 RER B stations.

Mini Giga is an industrial media converter that enables Gigabit Ethernet transmission over one or two optical fibres via the insertion of an SFP, by converting Ethernet signals from the electrical port to the SFP port and vice versa. Flexible, it is 100Mbps compatible. Its little extra is a dipswitch for configuring the data rate at 100 Mbps or 1 Gbps.

Designed to operate in harsh environments, and in particular railway environments, Mini Giga was the perfect answer to RATP’s needs.

The first batch already left our factory at the end of April. More than 400 of our units will be delivered progressively throughout 2023 and into 2024, to ensure the transmission of information via the preferred medium of optical fibres.
